Every site I've been to says it will be ratified through parliament. At least their governing body had a choice.. Also, Anonymous' response to Poland:

Only 5 EU countries haven't signed the treaty: Germany, the Netherlands, Estonia, Cyprus and Slovakia. Although ACTA won't come into effect until the EU parliament has voted on it, so it doesn't matter what the member states say. http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/networking/2012/01/26/uk-signs-acta-as-activists-urge-resistance-40094914/ So members of EU countries should contact their MEP UK: http://www.writetothem.com/ EU: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html The EU one will give a long list, I can't find a better one, sorry. So far 2 MEPs have gotten back to my email and they said that they will most likly vote against the proposal. Edited by Meowth, Jan 27 2012, 05:23 PM.

I wish the UK Parliament did that so badly. Also, I dunno what to be thinking about all this copyright law stuff at the moment. If I'm honest it's making me feel really depressed, because I don't really understand or know for sure what it all means for regular people like me. It's not exactly a secret that most people using the internet have at some point downloaded something without paying, and I don't really like the idea of being arrested or fined at some point as I'm sure other people here would agree, so I'm wondering if anybody could tell me or at least attempt to clear up what the consequences could be for average people. For example, if you have done this in the past, but have since stopped either upon hearing about ACTA/SOPA/PIPA etc or prior to that, would you be fined or sued or arrested or anything for things you have done in the past, is there a cut off for the information ISPs have on your activity or is it possible for them to say "This person went to MegaUpload in 2007 and downloaded this file", or is that only likely to happen to anybody caught doing it after these things are passed (if they are passed)? And what happens in the cases of things like MegaUpload or equally large sites where plenty of people have visited and downloaded things from? Does the law target the founders and owners only or do they track down every uploader and downloader that used it in order to sue them? There is so many scare stories and different takes on all of it that I'm not entirely sure what to think anymore, and so I thought I'd ask a trusted community if they could answer it for everybodies benefit. It's so damn confusing and we kinda have to work together on all of this after all. It'd be nice just to have relative peace of mind. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpMpTClllqA&feature=g-logo&context=G26bbf57FOAAAAAAADAA This is a good video made by an Irishman. Watch it, spread it around, etc. ACTA is terrible and Ireland signed it the other day. |
